Nerd Day 2019

In September I hosted the annual 'Nerd Day'. For 2019 we played a small game of 40k, a HUGE 4000 point 3-way AoS battle, a fantastic 5 player Dungeon Bowl game and then finally we defeated the Ambull in Blackstone Fortress.

Oh and we christened my new firepit and BBQ!

Sylvaneth Ylthari's Guardians

For these guys, I took the opportunity to paint the whole unit with only Contrast paints.  I followed the rather splendid guide by Tyler Mengel here on the Warhammer Community site... and I think they came out quite well.

These guys aren't great in AoS so I wasn't too fussed they wouldn't match the aesthetic of my Sylvaneth collection.

Sylvaneth Arch Revenant

Swiftly on the heels of the Spite Revenants, I moved on to the new, exclusive (at the time) Arch-Revenant from Looncurse. Again I got the chance to experiment with Contrast... and it turned out rather well I think!

Lets go through the steps:

Skin
Aethermatic Blue/Contrast Medium.

Hair
Blaguebearer Flesh/Contrast Medium.

Bark
Caliban Green then shaded with Wyldwood.

Skirt
Loren Forest highlighted with Straken Green. Contrast Warp lightning was then applied and shaded with Ork Flesh.

Sprite wings
Undercoated Grey Seer then airbrushed Aethermatic Blue, Plague Bearer Flesh, Akhelion Green. Finally, Grey Seer was then drybrushed.

Spite chitin
Undercoated Grey Seer then painted Terradon Turquoise. A washed mix of Aethermtic Blue/Akhelian Green/Contrast Medium was then applied. This was then highlighted by drybrushing Sotek Green and Temple Guard Blue.

Runes and blade
AirbrushedBaharroth blue and white.

Sylvaneth Spite Revenants

Once I'd finished the initial batch of Blood Angels I moved on to rounding out my Sylvaneth collection. I was lucky enough to pick up 2 boxes of Looncurse when it was released in May 2019 so used the contents of the boxes to expand my collection to over 4500 points.

First up out of the set was to paint up 15 Spite Revenants. These were very straight forward to paint and I got the chance to use Contrast paints for the first time.

The bark was airbrushed Abbadon Black then highlighted with Caliban Green, Warpstone Glow and finally Moot Green. The bark was then shaded with a mixture of Black Templar and Contrast Medium. I then picked out some of the lightest green areas with more Moot Green.

The skin was undercoated Grey Seer and then Aethermatic Blue was applied all over.

The leaves were painted Wraithbone and then various contrast paints were used over the top.

These guys were super easy to paint and great fun!

40k Battles @ Element Games

Photo dump from a couple of battles I had at Element Games (Stockport, Manchester) in Spring 2019. Both were Blood Angels v Khorne Daemons... I lost both but they were great fun!
